Arborvitae – Mr Bowling Ball
Mr. Bowling Ball – the name fits it well for it makes a perfect ball and will grow in that shape without you spending hours shaping and shearing it. This neat and tidy arborvitae can end up being 2 to 3 feet high by 2 to 3 feet wide. As you can see by these dimensions, the shrub remains round as it grows.
Also known as Thuja occidentalis “bobazam”, Mr. Bowling Ball’s dense fine-textured foliage changes from dark green to sage green in the fall when it resembles that of a fine-textured juniper or false cypress.
This arborvitae prefers well drained soil but can take full sun to partial shade. Because of its round shape, this shrub would fit any landscape design but is at its best when planted near a pond in mass plantings or as a border!
So if you’re looking for a small round shrub that can provide color year round and that keeps its shape and if your area is anywhere from zone 3 to 7, you may want to consider using the arborvitae, Mr. Bowling Ball ( a good conversational topic, don’t you think?)
You will find it and many other small shrubs under the title “Live Small Shrubs” under the Plants Menu.
